It’s funny … I’m not attracted to Vegas for the casinos, the drinking, the gambling, or the partying … its the shows … and my most favorite show, now installed as a permanent hotspot in Vegas, is Cirque du Soleil. I first experienced this mysterious and magical eye-splintering array of fantastic feat-defying awe in their home town of Montreal, Quebec, Canada where I was bestowed with the ability to enjoy Saltimblanco. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan. Not as devoted as I’d like to be, as I often can’t afford their shows, now that they are many places all at once, instead of a single travelling circus. But when I do get a chance to go to Vegas – it’s a sure thing, if I can, I’ll visit their show, and/or others like Blue Man Group, Stomp, David Copperfield, etc. To me that’s what Vegas is all about … the shows. Well, ok, the buffets too.
Circus du Soleil is a circus, though troope is what I’d like to say, but certainly large enough to truly be its own circus, who amazes their audiences with acrobatics on stilts, fire blowing, juggling, comedy, acrobatics, gymnastics, trapeze, high wire, that was born in Quebec in 1984. Travelling around Quebec, with their own unique music, light effects, and costumes – Canadian audiences were amazed. In 1986, on to Vancouver and Ontario, and 1987 to California. In 1990 their first tour around the USA, with audiences as large as 2500. On to Europe then Japan, it became a world phenomena by 1992. In 1998 they saw a permanent show become established in Vegas and now they proudly boast 8 shows throughout the world.
So next time you are in Vegas, don’t miss this mind blowing phenomena. You’ll wish you hadn’t. They are one of the best shows in the world, and an amazing permanent show in Vegas!
